What's ruining the world right now (and for the past few thousand years)

Just wanted to drop some thoughts. Whether they're right or wrong is up to you.

1)Why is it that the beliefs of certain shepherds and a lengthy book they wrote somehow justify an irredentist claim to a patch of the middle east?

So if you put a claim to real property in writing, and claim "god" endorsed it, that's legally (or more accurately, politically) actionable?

Ok, I can do it too. I want Manhattan. God said so.

There, that should increase my standard of living by orders of magnitude.

2)Why is it that the beliefs of certain disciples who followed a man who, by modern scientific standards, was clearly insane (today we wouldn't crucify someone who claimed to be the son of "god," we'd give them medication and possibly a stay in a rubber room) have spread throughout the mind of humanity like a virus, bringing violent death, intolerance and moral corruption with it?

If Christianity is right, and true believers in Christ obtain everlasting salvation, then count me out. I'd rather not spend eternity with the religious right.

Good thing it's wrong.

3)I'm not going to say anything about Islam. I'd rather stay unmurdered.

That's it for now. Hope you had fun!

On McDonalds

I decided to start this blog because I've noticed a lot of stuff online that was very anti-McDonald's but not much that was for McDonald's so I thought it would be good to have a place for a different point of view.

Not everything about McDonald's is good, but not all of it is bad either. Sure it's sort of insane how caloric some of their menu items are, and eating there on a daily basis probably is unhealthy. It is convenience food, quickly delivered and quickly eaten for a low price. If people choose to make it their lifestyle, they are to blame for the health problems that result, not McDonald's.

There was also a lot of material online about how eating meat is wrong and how McDonald's is ruining the environment. As for both issues, one person, or even a few thousand, choosing not to eat at McDonald's for these reasons will have zero impact. I think we have to come to accept that the powers that be, namely the powerful corporate interests, are in control and hope that, when things do get bad enough, they will do something about it. There isn't much of an alternative; I doubt hatemail on the internet will make McDonald's stop using meat.

Which leads me to a much more important issue : what is better, the Big Mac or the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese? I know it's a tough choice, the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese has more meat, but the Big Mac has the special sauce. Do you think if I asked for a Quarter Pounder with Big Mac special sauce, they would do it? I'm afraid to ask because it sounds crazy. I wonder if they would be willing to give me some special sauce on the side to dip my fries in. But these are just crazy fantasies.

Oh, and while I'm on the subject, *&^# Che, *&^# Karl Marx and *&^# (insert your favorite commie here).
